Building My First PC

After years of wanting to, I finally bought all the parts to build my first personal computer. I was always nervous about making the jump from Apple to PC. I use an iPhone and adore my MacBook Pro. I got it in 2011 before college and never looked back… until now. With 7+ years of use, my laptop is showing its age. Anything that requires too much internal work (editing, playing graphics intense games etc.) is almost impossible. So it was a perfect opportunity to upgrade my computer system.

My brother in law helped my pick the parts based on my budget ($1,200 max including monitors and keyboard) and after two weeks of waiting for parts to be delivered to my house, I finally put all the pieces together. There are so many PC building guides and videos online so that made the process of building, and even installing the operating system pretty straightforward and easy.

probably have to work on my cable management

I’ve been hesitant about switching the Windows operating system after being accustomed to Apple, and spending that much money in one go felt like it ripped a part of my soul out. But now that it’s done, I’m so proud of myself, and am really happy with it. My computer is my new baby. I could have chosen to buy a designer bag or go on vacation with the money spent, but I didn’t, and I have 0 regrets.

The building process is still ongoing. I want to add speakers and a webcam. I also want to upgrade my keyboard to a mechanical one. I still have tons of software programs to download before my computer can do all the things I want it to. But I already feel more productive with my set up. I love the speed of my computer, and I love the double monitors. There are so many more possibilities with this new set up. I can download software to learn and practice Adobe, I can do some light gaming without interruption. I’m really interested in learning more skills, and learning more about technology, and my PC build was the first step for me to help do that.
